Frank R. Marek, age 86, of Route 1, Abbott, passed away Wednesday morning, February 7, 1996 at his residence. A prayer service was at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, led by the Rev. Frank Simcik. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday at the West Brethren Church, with the Rev. Frank Simcik officiating. Burial followed at West Brethren Cemetery. Mr. Marek was born December 11, 1909 in Hill County, the son of Vince and Veronica Marek. He married Ella Josephine Hyvl on January 8, 1941 in Caldwell. He was a farmer for most of his life before retiring in 1974. He was also a carpenter. He was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54 in West and the Mutual Aid Society. He was also a lifelong member of the West Brethren Church. He enjoyed playing the accordion. Survivors include one son, Gilbert Marek of Abbott; four daughters, Dorothy Veselka of Waco, Georgiann Allen of Garland, Joyce Johnson of Lewisville, and Jolynn Kasik of Abbott; one sister, Lillie Greaser of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were John Engelke, Curtis Schutza, Edwin Husak, Jeff Johanson, Brian Jackson and Alvin Paul, Jr. Memorials may be made to the West Brethren Church Memorial Fund or to West Community Hospital.
