Former Texas Ranger Memorial Cross installed next to headstone on October 16, 2004. Obituary. Kerrville Mountain Sun, Kerrville, TX. October 18, 1934. Monroe Wells Shot To Death; W.S. Orr Held. Last Rites Held Saturday For Mountain Home Ranchman. Monroe M. Wells, 48, ranchman of the Mountain Home community, was fatally shot Friday afternoon in an altercation which occured on the Honey Creek Road, near Hunt. Will S. Orr, 38, surrendered to Constable Jeff Duncan a short time after the shooting. A charge of murder was filed against Orr in the court of Justice E.H. Turner. The complaint was filed by Sheriff Frank Moore. Up to Wednesday morning, attorneys representing Orr had made no attempt to secure his release on bond. Funeral services for Mr. Wells, a highly respected resident of the Mountain Home community, were held Saturday afternoon. The rites were conducted by Rev. A.T. Nixon, pastor of the Harper Baptist Church. Burial was at Sunset Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Active Pall bearers were James A. Peril and Gus Sproul of Mountain Home, Joe Croom and Carl Peterson of Kerrville, Tom Dunderstadt of Uvalde and Ervin Kaler of Corpus Christi. Mr. Wells was born in Gillespie County on March 30, 1886. He had lived in Kerr County practically all of his life and for the past 25 years he was engaged in the ranching business near Mountain Home. Surviving Mr. Wells are his widow, Mrs. Joe Wells; two sisters, Mrs. Bess Henderson of Sonora and Mrs. Rachel Maddox of Eldorado, and one brother, Rufus Wells, of Mountain Home
