The Wellington Leader June 22, 1967 R. A. Covey, 74, prominent farmer living four miles southwest of Dodson, died instantly in a car-truck collision which occurred about 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 at an intersection on a county raod west of Dodson. Sheriff John Rainey said the car in which Mr. Covey was riding with his son, Fred Covey, was hit broadside by a hay truck driven by Johnny Nash, of Wellington. He said the scene of the accident was a blind intersection, grown up with Johnson grass and weeds. Riding with Nash in the truck were Bishop Carroll and R. H. Mallard, both of Wellington. Fred Covey and Bishop Carroll were treated at Wellington Clinic and released. Mr. Covey and his son were en route home after he had been checked at the Wellington Clinic. He had undergone surgery recently. Rubin Avril Covey was born in Missouri but spent most of his life in Grayson County before moving to the Dodson area in 1918. He had served on the Arlie school board and was a member of the Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge at Dodson. He and Mrs. Covey were married January 14, 1915 at Pottsboro, Grayson County. Surviving Mr. Covey are his wife and six children: Avril Winford Covey of Irving, James Covey of Plainview, Mrs. Sammy Motsenbocker of Dodson, R. A. Covey Jr. of Amarillo, Fred Covey of Wellington and Bobby Jack Covey of Torrance, CA. Other survivors are a brother, James Arthur Covey of Grapevin; two half-sisters, Mrs. Raymond Foutz of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Ann Mooney of Tulsa; three step-sisters, Mrs. May Boyers and Mrs. Leslie Atkinson of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Thelma Stagler of Ohio. There are 17 grand children and three great-grandchildren.
