Herald Coaster, April 19, 1962: Funeral services for Emil Stavinoha, Sr., 82, were held Saturday, April 14, from the Triska Chapel at 9:45 a.m., followed by Requiem Mass at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with Rev. J.J. Tydlacka officiating and assisted by Rev. A.W. Nesbadba of Wallis. Mr. Stavinoha died at his home after a short illness. He suffered a heart attack April 12. Mr. Stavioha was born December 12, 1879 in a log cabin near La Grange. He married Alouise Vacek, who preceded him in death in 1953. They moved to Rosenberg in 1927 where he lived until the time of his death. "Grandpa" Stavinoha, as he was known to many, is survived by eight children, four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Ann DeShazo Muzny of San Antonio, Mrs. Edna Kubosh, Mrs. Olga Marie Dunbar, and Mrs. Annie DeShazo of Rosenberg; four sons, Staches of Sugar Land, Joseph of Bay City, Emil and Bernard of Rosenberg; five brothers, Vojt of Rosenberg, Adolph of Temple, Joseph of Ganado, George of La Grange, and Jim of San Antonio; four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Horak of Needville, Mrs. Marie Hluchanek of Weimar, and Mrs. Martha Bohac of Ammannsville; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rev. Stavinoha, Evan Stavinoha, Steve Chernosek, V.F. Stavinoha, J.J. Stavinoha, and Louis Vacek. Burial was in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Triska Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
