An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, February 26, 1987: Elva Ozell Gilchrest, 76, of Waco died Feb. 22 at Goodall- Witcher Hospital in Clifton. Services were held Feb. 24 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville with Rev. Alfred Gould officiating. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery. Born Nov. 26,1910 in Coryell County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Whisenhunt. She was raised in the Ater and White Hall communities where she attended schools in each community. She married Cleburne C. Gilchrest March 30, 1929. He died in 1974. She was a retired employee of Hillcrest Hospital in Waco where she worked for 15 years retiring in 1980. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Clifton. Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Jane Higginbotham of St. Louis, Mo., Betty Sue Holt of Waco and Barbara Robertson of Gatesville; two sons, Dale Gilchrest of Waco and Norman Gilchrest of Waco; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the funeral were John Easley, Pete Gilchrest, Don Gilchrest, Larry Walker, Joe Adcock and Duane Franks.
