An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, October 10, 1969: Funeral services for Mrs. W. A. Whisenhunt, 88, of Gatesville will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Minister Rex Tilly will, conduct the rites, and burial will be in Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Whisenhunt, who was a lifelong resident of Coryell County, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday in a local rest home. The former Mary Lela Timmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Earl Timmons, she was born in Coryell County on Oct. 9, 1880. She was reared in the Ater community and was married to Mr. Whisenhunt, a farmer, on Aug. 12, 1903. They resided at Ater before moving to Gatesville in 1936. Mr. Whisenhunt died in 1958. Mrs. Whisenhunt was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Willie Hoppe of Rt. 2, Gatesville, Mrs. C. C. Gilchrest of Waco and Mrs. Buddy Franks of Gatesville; one son, Jim Whisenhunt of Gatesville; a sister, Mrs. W. R. Whisenhunt of Ater; one brother, Ernest E. Timmons of Ater; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One son, Ruel L. Whisenhunt, died in 1950.
