Frank W. Marek, age 72 of West, passed away May 8, 1999 at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. May 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 478 of West. Mr. Marek was born August 6, 1926 in Penelope, the son of Frank and Mary Marek. He married the late Willie Mae Sembera. She died December 30, 1972. He served his country with the United States Navy and was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 and a member of the American Legion No. 478. He was a farmer and a manager for the Penelope Gin before becoming maintenance supervisor for Certain-Teed in Hillsboro for 30 years until he retired in December of 1990. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Kolar, who died on April 16, 1999. He is survived by two sons, Michael Marek and wife, Deanna of West and Gary (Peanut) Marek of Leroy; three brothers, Joe Marek and wife, Annie of Penelope, Eugene Marek and wife, Betty of Dallas, and Leon Marek and wife, Kathy of Waco; five sisters, Mary Marek and Lillie Marek, both of West, Albina Howard and husband, Rufus of Penelope, Josephine Kallus and husband, Albin of Abbott, and Willie Mae Skerik and husband, Frank of West; four grandchildren, Adam and Ashton Marek of West and Christopher and Sherril Marek of Salado; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ernest Sykora, Mark Zapalac, David Kallus, Ronnie Skerik, Larry Marek and John F. Kaluza, Jr. The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. May 9 at the funeral home.
