Mrs. Alfons (Leona) Kolar, age 62 of Route 1, Mount Calm, passed away April 16, 1999, in a Waco hospital. A rosary was recited at 2 p.m. on April 18 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2:15 p.m. April 18 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Kolar was born in Penelope, July 3, 1936, and lived in the Penelope/Birome area all of her life. She graduated from Penelope High School and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She married Alfons Kolar on January 4, 1958, in Abbott. Mrs. Kolar was a homemaker and gardener. She was a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #66 and the K.J.Z.T. Society #11 of West. Survivors include her husband, Alfons; four sons, Alfons Kolar, Jr. and wife Henrietta of Whorten, Thomas Kolar and wife Barbara of West, James Kolar and wife Elaine of Chalk Bluff and Kenneth Kolar of Penelope; four brothers Frank Willie Marek of West, Joe Marek and wife Annie of Penelope, Eugene Marek and wife Betty of Dallas and Leon Marek and wife Kathy of Waco; five sisters, Mary Marek and Lillie Marek of West, Mrs. Albina Howard and husband Rufus of Penelope, Mrs. Josephine Kallus and husband Albin of Abbott and Mrs. Willie Skerik and husband Frank of West; and five grandchildren, Emily, Laura, Jacob, Kara, and Kailey Kolar. Active pallbearers were Harry Grmela, Adolph Kolar, Jr., Larry Marek, Gregory Marek, and David Kallus. Kotch Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
