Mrs. J. Walla Dies At 99, Rites Held Sat. Mrs. Johanna Walla, 99, died at 5:20 a.m. Friday, June 5, in West Rest Haven. Requiem mass was celebrated at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Assumption in West with Rev. George Doskocil as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Walla was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and walked about a mile to attend daily mass at the church for 50 years, until she was 96. She was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States when she was 26. She married Frank Walla in 1897 and moved to West shortly after 1900. She was a member of KJZT Society No. 11 and the Altar Rosary Society. She is survived by three sons, John Walla of St. Petersburg, Fla., Adolph Walla of West, and Albin Walla of Dallas; one daughter, Mrs. Paul C. (Frances) Sulak of Laredo; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Kucera of Corpus Christi; one brother, Charlie Sykora of Waco; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
