Albin C. Karlik, age 77, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 5, 1993 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Thursday (today) at Aderhold Funeral Home by Rev. Ed Karasek. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Karlik was born August 28, 1916 in West, the son of Cyril and Elizabeth Karlik. He married Ida Matustik on April 23, 1945 in West. He served his country with the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a Flight Engineer. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, the EAME Campaign Medal with Six Bronze Stars and other accommendations. Throughout a 40-year career in the construction industry he was responsible for the construction and renovation of many residential, public, and commercial buildings in West and other Texas cities. He served as General Contractor for additions to the West Rest Haven, West High School, and St. Mary's Catholic School and construction of the city's three medical clinics. At the time of his death he was supervising the renovation of the West Bank & Trust in Hewitt and participating in restoration planning for the West historic train depot. Mr. Karlik was also active in community and church affairs. He served on the West City Council for over 13 years, during which time his major focus was improvement of the city's infrastructure including street and water facilities. He volunteered his time to supervise the construction of the West Library, Community Center, City Hall Gazebo, and the City Municipal Park. He was an officer for the Catholic Workman and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, where he served as a past director; the American Legion No. 478; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819, and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305. He is survived by his wife, Ida Karlik of West; two sons, Carlton Karlik of Plano and Gregory Karlik of Granbury; two daughters, Jean Karlik of Ft. Worth and Elizabeth Tubbs of Bluff Dale; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Karlik of Plano and Katie and Amanda Karlik of Granbury; three sisters, Mary Gerik of Waco, Agnes Karlik of West, and Anna Mae Cernosek of Waco. Pallbearers are Davie Matustik, Michael Matustik, Paul Kucera, Edwin Gerik, C.W. Cernosek and Billy Karlik. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
