Wife Anna Lou Garrett buried elsewhere, but dates are engraved on companion marker with Jack Texas Death Index, 1903-2000 Name: Jack Garrett Death Date: 9 Nov 1981 Death County: Harris Gender: Male Borger News Herald - November 11, 1981 Services for Jack Garrett, 56, who was killed Monday in Houston when he was abducted from his used car business were at 2 p.m. today in the Johnson Park Church of Christ with Mr. Garry Bortz, minister, officiating. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors. The former Borger resident, was shot to death in a secluded, wooded area of far west Houston Monday. Garrett was abducted by a gunman wearing a ski mask and cloth gloves, taken to his home where several valuables were stolen and then shot to death with at .25-caliber pistol. Police were looking for a suspect standing about 6' tall, weighing 170 to 190 pounds and driving a two-tone blue Cadillac stolen from one of Garrett's employees. Richard Riley, one of Garrett's employees, also was abducted at gunpoint but was released before the gunman drove to the secluded area and shot Garrett five times in the chest and once in the head. A native of Childress, Garrett was a Borger resident from 1945 to 1966. He was a partner with his brothers in a used car business in Borger before moving to Houston in 1966. Survivors include his wife, Anna Lou; two sons, Roger Dale and David, both of Houston; three brothers, Buddy of Hollis, Okla., Bill and Dean, both of Borger; four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Price of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Lois Neeper of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Christine Darnell of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Altha Moore of Borger. Pallbearers were Bob Garrett, Dick Brooks, Ronnie Griffin, Bill Garrett, Robert Garrett, Ernest Robles, Benny J. DeFore and Terry Garrett.
