John Charles HALLER was the son of Karlous & Elizabeth Hess HALLER who lived in Chicago, IL at the time he was born. The family moved to Webster County Nebraska around 1885. Seems that John was constantly on the move. He sponsored dances at Blue Hill, NE when he was still at home. He helped lay water mains for the city of Hastings, NE. He went to Potter, NE to plant trees on a timber claim for his uncle but left before planting them. From there he went to Cheyenne, WY where he kept books and records in a rooming house. He worked in the harvest fields of ND. From there he went to Rock Springs, WY and worked in a car repair shop for the railroad. He worked on the building of the railroad from Rock Springs, WY to Missoula, MT. While working in Oregon, he met Addie Mary Vincent at Woodburn which is near Salem. They were married in 1893. Her parents had a farm near Long Island, KS. Perhaps that is what brought him back to the midwest. John and Addie were the parents of eleven children: John Charles (1894-?); Frank Joseph (1896-1967); Mary Elizabeth (1898-1898); Bertha May (1900-1991); Michael David (1902-?); Fred Louis (1905-1935); Clifford Raymond (1907-?); Esther Marie (1909-1911); Joseph Peter (1913-?); Jessie Marie (1917-2004); and Marvin Dale (1920-?).
