Bio
Georgia Mechell Skerik, 87, of West, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, in West. A rosary will be recited 6 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Georgia was born in West, Texas, to the late Karal Charles and Mary (Kaska) Nors. She attended St. Mary's School and the old Alligator School. On Sept. 26, 1939, she was united in marriage to Emil Mechell in West. Then on July 20, 1980, she married William A. Skerik in West. Georgia was a homemaker and volunteered at West Rest Haven for over 30 years. She was a life time and very faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood and the K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society No. 11. Georgia enjoyed quilting by hand, embroidering, gardening, and canning. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband on Aug. 2, 1974; her second husband on June 29, 2005; a grandson, Lawrence Mechell; brothers, John Nors, Raymond Nors, Frank Nors, and Joe Nors; and sisters, Mary Bordovsky, Adele Chudej, Agnes Vykukal, and Annie Chudej. Survivors include sons, Fred Mechell and wife, Barbara, of West, Jerry Mechell and wife, Janie, of Arlington, Larry Mechell, of Elm Mott and Terry Mechell and wife, Julie, of West; daughters, Doris Horton and husband, Floyd, of West and Joanie Watson and husband, Michael, of Penelope, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
