Bio

Chester was born to Martha Ellen (Hayes) Rupe, and her first husband, Mr. Rupe. She apparently decided to go by her maiden name after divorcing Rupe. Chester became the step-son of my great grandfather, Reuben T. Dallas when he married Martha Ellen Hayes, as she was called in the marriage citation. Chester is cited in numerous Ardmorite newspaper articles in social trips with Reuben and Martha Dallas. He is also cited working in various capacities for R.T. Dallas' businesses which were real estatae, wholesale and retail sales. Lastly he is cited a couple of times for illegal transporting of liquor. At times, Chester went by the last name 'Dallas' and others 'Rupe'. He worked for the RingaLing Circus in Oklahoma, and married Essie Shelton in Carter, OK on August 8, 1908. She was about 13 years his junior. The wedding announcement in the Ardmore Morning Democrat (Ardmore, Oklahoma) · Tue, Aug 11, 1908, Page 8 cites the wedding took place in the home of R.T. Dallas, Chester's step father (and my g.grandfather). Flowery language follows, with the fact that Essie's parents' names were Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Shelton. That article also states the bride was of well known parents, and she is well-educated at Kidd Key College in Sherman, TX. Facts are few, so the details should be apx and to the best of our information. Chester is cited at times as working for R.T. Dallas, his step-father's businesses around Ardmore, Indian Territory, later OK. We have a foto of Essie and Chester Rupe. Essie and Chester divorced. Chester then married Jeanette Sanders in Carter, OK, February 3, 1916. Essie married Monroe T. Bell in 1914. Chester's death was captured Los Angeles Evening Citizen News (Hollywood, California) · Tue, Sep 25, 1945 · Page 3. His name was given as Chester Allen Dallas. A death notice page 10 on October 5, 1945, of the Armorite newspaper, cites that Chester Rupe (Dallas) died a few days ago in Hollywood, CA where he worked for a carnival. It cites he was unmarried, but apparently he was divorced from Essie. The article further cites he died of a heart attack the 21st, and was buried the 25th of September, 1945. I'm going to hook Chester's memorial herein to both Reuben and his 3rd wife, the mother of Chester, because at times Reuben refers to Chester as his son. Reuben was my father's father's father. My great grandfather. Interested parties are invited to contact us: [email protected] FInally, the article cites that only two members of the R.T. Dallas survive, being Dovie McCaw of San Diego, CA.(step daughter of R.T, and I think, daughter of 3rd wife, Martha Ellen), and Arthur Dallas of Oklahoma City - who was the son of both Reuben T. and Martha E. Dallas. She often went by Mrs Reuben Dallas or Ellen Dallas. Lastly it states that this report came to Judge and Mrs. I.R. Mason.
