Bio
Bonnie Smith passed away August 2, 2024, at home in the Baxter community. Bonnie was born February 1, 1943, the daughter of Claud Richardson and Artie Mae Baker Richardson. She was one of 14 siblings raised at the family farm on Richardson Road in Baxter, where she developed a lifelong affinity for animals She graduated from Athens High School in 1961 and worked for Gulf States United Telephone Company, United Telephone Company, and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Athens and Dallas for 35 years. Bonnie was a generous daughter, sister, and aunt, and was always eager to help others in need. She had a witty sense of humor, loved to laugh, and didn't hesitate to share her opinions. She was most at home enjoying the serenity of life in the country, where she was raised, and relished mornings with coffee on the back porch, watching butterflies float across the lawn. Bonnie was a gifted gardener and was skilled at making things beautiful, whether it was tending her flower beds or decorating her home. One of her favorite ways to relax was filling out crossword puzzles. Although she loved everyone in her tight-knit family, Bonnie felt a particularly close bond with her twin brother, Ronnie Richardson. She was her brother's keeper in childhood, and treasured their time together throughout their lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Artie Mae Richardson; brothers Clarence, Jimmy Glen, Bill, Ronnie, Larry, and Truitt Richardson; sisters Mary Lou Richardson, Zephie Burch, Fayrene Miller, Betty Neely, Frances Smith, and Deanne Richardson; brothers-in-law Herbert Burch, Floyd Miller, and Robert Neely; sisters-in-law Thelma, Billie Marie, and Laverne (LuLu) Richardson; nieces Sherry Wilson, Glenda Dingler, and Brenda Ward; nephews Tommy Burch, Michael Richardson, and Roger Richardson; great niece Shannon Mills; and great nephew Danny Wilson. Survivors include her sister Suella Clark and husband Harold Clyde Clark of Baxter, brother-in-law Bobby Smith of Athens, and sisters-in-law Andrea (Lucy), Louise, and Ann Richardson, all of Baxter, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
