Transcription of Obituary from The Bryan Daily Eagle, 1939 Funeral Service Held Today For Pioneer Woman Mrs. Amanda Holligan, age 87 years and 5 months, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Withers, Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock following an illness of four weeks. Mrs. Holligan was one of the early pioneers of Brazos county, having come with with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Risinger, when they moved from Alabama to the then wilds of Texas in 1870 now 68 years ago. She was married here to the late I. J. Holligan, and they made their home and reared their family here. The husband passed on some years ago, and since that time she had made her home with her sons and daughters in this county. Funeral services for Mrs. Holligan were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at Steep Hollow church, with Rev. Charley E. Bullock, pastor of the Normangee Baptist church, officiating. Interment was made in the Steep Hollow cemetery with McCulloch-Dansby Company in charge. Surviving the deceased are two sons and three daughters: J. L. and W. M. Holligan of Bryan; Mrs. W. A. Withers and Mrs. Will F. Terry of Bryan; and Mrs. J. L. Neal of Warren. One sister and one brother also living, Mrs. J. E. Bullock and C. M. Risinger, both of Steep Hollow community. Six grandsons served as pallbearers at the funeral service, Alvin H. Holligan, Jesse Terry, Mit Morehead, Oliver Terry, H. L. Wedel and Fred Sedrani.
