S1 US NAVY WORLD WAR II ∼ OBITUARY: LOUIE GRIFFIN Funeral services for Louie Griffin, 75, of Battiest, were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Battiest Baptist Church, with the Rev. Archie Phillips, assisted by the Rev. Lawrence Langley, officiating. Griffin died Thursday in Veterans Hospital at Muskogee, Ok. Born Jan. 27, 1911 in Hatfield, Ark., he had resided in the Battiest area most of his life. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include seven brothers, Lester and Robert Griffin of Battiest, Ted Griffin of Maud, Bill Griffin of El Reno, Doc Griffin of Broken Bow, Leroy Griffin of Ridgecrest, Calif. and Dick Griffin of Lakeview, Ore., a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Arrangements and burial in Battiest Cemetery were under direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Broken Bow, Okla. (Taken from McCurtain Co. Ok. Gazette, June 22, 1986.)
