Mary Otilie Marak was born in the family farmhouse outside of West, Texas, to Edmund and Elizabeth (Gerik) Marak on May 9, 1923. She was named for her grandmothers, Marie Stanislav Marak and Otilie Sedelmeyer Gerik. She attended West schools whence Otilie was shortened for convenience to Lee. She married John Cecil Simcik in West on May 14, 1946. The union produced five children and endured two months short of 69 years. Rosary will be at 10:15 am Friday, February 4, at St. Louis Catholic Church followed by mass at 10:30 am. A private burial will be held later at Holy Cross Cemetery in Waco, Texas. Mary Lee was a devout member of St Louis Catholic Church. She was a member of Saint Veronica and served on many church and school service committees. She was a volunteer at Providence Park and St. Catherine Center and a lay Eucharistic Minister. Mary Lee was very proud of her Czech Moravian heritage and served as president of the Czech Catholic Fraternal Society KJZT 117 for many years. She was a devoted wife and caregiver to John and a loving mother with many talents- homemaker, cook, artist, seamstress, gardener, and pastry chef (heavenly kolache and rohiliky). Mary Lee is embraced in the afterlife by her parents, husband, son Paul Noel Simcik (Forever Four), daughter Mary Beth Simcik Pankratz, three sisters (Irene Jezek, Louise Jezek, and Wilma Olson), and three brothers (Alfred, Raymond, and John). Survived by sons, John Cecil Simcik III (Darlene) and Charles Marak Simcik (Tracy), daughter Elaine Renee Simcik (Brian Henry), son-in-Law Tim Pankratz , brother, Edmond Marak, many nieces and nephews. She was "Gram" to six grandchildren (Natalie, Valerie, John Paul, Heather, Stephanie, and Kathryn) and "Great Gram" to four great-grandsons: Evan, Grant, Luke, and John. A mother holds her children's hands for a while, their hearts forever. S Panem Bohem, Drahá Matka, Letat s andely! Obituary published online by OakCrest Funeral Home, Waco, Texas.
