Bio

John Cecil Simcik, 94, of Waco, passed away March 11, 2015. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. prior to Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Cyril Ejaidu officiating. Burial will be private. John was born in Waco, Texas, to Czech Moravian immigrants, the late John and Mary (Hanak) Simcik. He attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1939. He was a member of St Louis Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 1358. John was an Eagle Sea Scout and prepared for service to his country at Civilian Military Training Camps prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. Combat Engineer 1 st Lieutenant Simcik was a member of Patton's 3rd Army. He was wounded twice, captured outside of Troyes, France, in August 1944 and liberated in Germany in April 1945. Following World War II, John declined other opportunities and remained in Waco to support family. He partnered with his father as John Simcik Plumbers retiring in 1990. He joined the U.S. Army reserves in 1945 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and Commanding Officer of the 343rd Transportation Detachment in 1969. John married Mary Lee Marak in May 1946, a loving and devoted union which endured for nearly 69 years. He was preceded in death by a four year old son, Paul Noel Simcik; and his partner in mischief O.C. Brooks. Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, John Cecil Simcik III and wife, Darlene, and Charles Marak Simcik and wife, Tracy; daughters, Mary Beth Simcik Pankratz and husband, Tim, and Elaine Renee Simcik Henry and husband, Brian; grandchildren: Natalie Bentz and husband, Brock, Valerie Simcik, John Paul Simcik and wife, Angie, Heather Cooper, Stephanie Marquez and husband, Matt, and Kathryn Simcik; great-grandsons: Evan Cooper, Grant and Luke Bentz, and John Allen Simcik; brothers, Ernest Simcik and Carroll Simcik; and crony, Andy Skop.
