Bio
William Riley Preston, the oldest of the 9 known children of John Sylvester Preston and Nancy Frances Houchin of Grayson County, Kentucky, was born on May 29, 1866. He was the 2nd husband of Arvenia Jane Montgomery, the daughter of George Washington Montgomery and Rachel Snell Washburn and the widow of John Allen Cockerel. William and Arvenia were married by Rev. Isaac Malin Washburn on February 2, 1889 in Grayson County. At that time William became the stepfather of her Cockerel children: Corda Novella, born 14 Jul 1881, and John Everett, born 29 Apr 1883. William Riley Preston died at the age of 28 years, 1 month and 17 days on July 16, 1894. He was buried in the Wilson Cemetery near Ready, Grayson County, Kentucky. There is a possibility that the Arvenia Preston, who was born on December 26, 1891 and was buried in the Wilson Cemetery after her death on August 28, 1894, was his daughter by Arvenia Jane Montgomery. The Wilson Cemetery records list this Arvenia as his sister. Further research is needed to confirm this possibility.
