Leland Bateman was the 6th son and the 10th child of John Daniel Bateman and Laura Ada Woolley Bateman. He married Lena Pearl "Pearly" Jones Bateman on Jul 28, 1922 in Van Zandt Co. TX. Monday, January 11, in Eubank Funeral Chapel with Mike Newby, Church of Christ minister officiating. Internment was in Haven of Memories Cemetery. Mr. Bateman died Saturday night at his home after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Van Zandt Co., Mr. Bateman was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Myrtle Springs Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pearlie Jones Bateman of Route 1, Canton; two sons, Marlin Bateman of Abilene and Wayne Bateman of Canton; one brother Clyde Bateman of Wills Point; five sisters, Mrs. Ora Hall of Abilene, Mrs. Monnie Baugh of Wills Point, Mrs Sallie Simpson of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Lera Platter of Edgewood and Mrs. Verlie Snow of Dallas; four granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. Pallbearers were Orville Wilson, Peace Callahan, Charles Holland, Arch Martin, Richard Callahan, and J. C. Reed.
