Services for Wayne Bateman, 86, of Canton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. Craig Locke and Bro. David Fortner officiating under direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in Haven of Memories, Canton. He went to be with the Lord on Oct. 21, 2012, in Canton. Mr. Bateman was born Nov. 28, 1925, in the Willow Springs community to Leland and Lena Pearl Jones Bateman. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. Wayne was married to his precious wife, Cloma, for 64 years. He attended Canton schools and graduated with the class of 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served in the South Pacific, and helped in the occupation of Japan. Wayne worked for several years as a store manager for Cabells stores in Dallas. He retired from Merchants Freight Line in Dallas. Wayne loved his God, his family, gardening and wearing his overalls. Surviving are his wife, Cloma Bateman of Canton; daughters, Gayle Morris Bateman of Canton, Kelli and James Mitchell of Flint; two grandsons, Brian Rawdon of Tyler and Mark Morris of Garland; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Moore and Bennie Moore of Olton; other relatives and friends. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew Morris; and brother, Marlin Bateman. Pallbearers are Alton Jennings, Donald Bullard, Charles Holland, Ted Chamness, Brian Rawdon, Mark Morris and James Mitchell. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
