Bio
Virgil Thomas Bateman was the 5th son and 9th child of John Daniel Bateman and Laura Ada Woolley Bateman. He married Ibera Johnson, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Johnson and Minnie Johnson, in 1920. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Source, Obituary: BATEMAN RITES HELD WEDNESDAY Funeral services for Virgil Thomas Bateman, 68, of Canton, were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, in the Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Rev. Charles Richardson and the Rev. Roy Barber officiating. Burial was in the Haven of Memories Cemetery. Mr. Bateman died Tuesday, July 14, in a Tyler hospital. He was a member of the Willow Springs Baptist Church near Canton and was a farmer. He was a lifelong resident of Van Zandt Co. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ibera Bateman of Canton; two sons, Norman Bateman of Canton and Billy Bateman of Irving; two brothers, Clyde Bateman of Wills Point and Leland Bateman of Canton; five sisters, Mrs. Monnie Baugh of Wills Point, Mrs. Ora Hall of Abilene, Mrs. Lera Platter of Canton, Mrs. Sally Simpson of Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Verlie Snow of Dallas and four grandchildren.
