Bio

Irene Jane Hlavenka married John Frank Matus on 26 Sep 1933. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Irene Matus, age 85 of Amarillo, formerly of Tours, died June 7, 1998 in Amarillo. A rosary and funeral Mass were conducted June 9 at the Calvary Hill Chapel in Dallas with Rev. Philip Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Matus was born in Tours on October 18, 1912 to the late Mary Vrba Hlavenka and Anton Hlavenka. She attended school at St. Martin’s in Tours. In 1943 she married John Matus at St. Martin’s Church. They later moved to Dallas where Mrs. Matus lived until shortly before her death. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972 and her son, Reverend Ronnie Matus in 1994. She was a member of the K.J.Z.T. society in Dallas for over 50 years. Irene was a true Christian and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. We will always cherish her memory. S’bohem. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Pekar of Amarillo and Mary Ann Krajca of Dallas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brothers Joe and August Hlavenka of Dallas and Andrew Hlavenka of West; her sisters Evelyn Barath, Rose Hlavenka and Helen Marak, all of Irving; her sisters-in-law Rosie Skopik of Waco and Wilma Matus of Tours; and many nieces and nephews.
