Anna Helen Marak, 87, a resident of Irving since October 1962, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at a local care facility. The youngest of 11 children, Helen was born to the late Anton Hlavenka and Mary Vrba Hlavenka on November 15, 1931 in Tours, Texas. She attended St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours and graduated from West High School. On April 26, 1952 she married her teenage sweetheart, Edmond Marak, in San Diego, California where he was stationed in the Navy. They returned to Texas afterward eventually settling in Irving. Before having children of their own, Ed and Helen raised her teenage nephew Ronnie Neckar and provided temporary housing to numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, both her sister Rose and her mother lived permanently with them. She worked for Dallas County Tax Office as a title clerk before her children were born and returned after they were older. She was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church where she had been active in the Altar Guild and as a volunteer religion teacher. She was a former room mother, den mother for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scout leader. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Albin Hlavenka, Alphonse Hlavenka, August Hlavenka, Joe Hlavenka and Andrew Hlavenka; and sisters Mary Neckar, Irene Matus, Regina Hlavenka, Evelyn Barath and Rose Hlavenka. Survivors include her devoted husband of almost 67 years, Ed Marak of Irving; daughters Antoinette LaBarre and husband Stephen of Irving and Jennifer Clower and husband Scott of Kilgore; sons, Eddie Marak, Jr. of McKinney and Michael Marak and wife Barb of Lewisville; seven grandchildren Melissa Velasquez and husband Joel, Jimmy Marak, Michael LaBarre, Aubrey LaBarre, Daniel LaBarre, Rachel Clower and Gracie Clower; and two great grandchildren, Alexis Velasquez and Gabriel Velasquez. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. A Rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2019.
