Daughter of Darius Matthew Amsberry of Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa and Evaline Greenlee of Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa. Wife of James William Clay of Bethany, Harrison County, Missouri, married on 01 March 1900 in Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska. "Minnie May Amsberry, daughter of Darius M. and Evaline Amsberry, was born at Grand Island, February 1st, 1876. She passed away in the home of her son, Lorin Clay, in Broken Bow on March 18, 1947 at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 17 days. She moved with her parents to a homestead near Mason City where she resided about eight years after which the family moved to Broken Bow. She graduated from the Broken Bow High School in 1894. She taught in the rural schools of the county for six years. On March 14, 1900, she was united in marriage to James William Clay. To this union, 12 children were born, eight boys and four girls. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, James William Clay of Broken Bow; eight sons, Lorin, Ralph, Gail, all of Broken Bow, Harold of Anselmo, Donald of Filer, Idaho, Walter of Lebanon, Oregon, Kenneth of Twin Falls, Idaho and Warren of Merna; four daughters, Esther of Anselmo, Myrtle Pittenger of Los Altas, California, Evelyn McCaslin of Broken Bow and Marjory Myers of Broken Bow. Also she leaves 33 grandchildren, two brothers, L.W. and W.S. Amsberry of Compton, California, two sisters, Mrs. Ama Foote of Dunning and Lillie Bangs of Cove Orchard, Oregon. Besides a host of friends. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church here most of her life. Her father, D.M. Amsberry, was for many years a deacon of the church and Sunday school superintendent. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, March 23rd, Rev. Everett W. Milner, pastor, officiating. Pallbearers were Alvah Chrisp, Clarence Marsh, Earl Gremm, Elmer McCaslin, Clayton Armstrong and Clifford Armstrong."
