Son of William Franklin Amsberry and Harriet Ann Brown of Mason County, West Virginia. Husband of Evaline Greenlee of Iowa; married on 08 April 1875 in Coalport, Wayne County, Iowa. Darius Matthew Amsberry was a newspaper printer in Broken Bow, Nebraska, as well as a tanner, shoemaker, teacher and from 1919 to 1923, the Secretary of State of Nebraska. In 1906, Darius Matthew Amsberry was appointed Receiver of the United States Land Office in Broken Bow, Nebraska by President Theodore Roosevelt. In 1910, President William Howard Taft reappointed Darius to another term in the same office.
