Bio

Georgia Ann Cocek, 94, of West, formerly of Bishop, Texas, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006, in West Rest Haven. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, with Father Ed Karasek, as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Georgia was born in West, Texas, the fourth of six children born to the late Rudolph and Ludmilla Smajstrla Nemecek. She graduated from St. Mary's School in West and also West High School in 1931. On June 23, 1935, she married Fred F. Cocek Sr. Georgia lived in Bishop, Texas, for many years, where she was a telephone switchboard operator. She loved to quilt and cook and was an excellent seamstress and also made the most delicious kolaches and shared them with her family and friends. For many years she attended Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Bishop, Texas, and after moving to West in June, 2005, she became a resident of West Rest Haven and also became a member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on May 4, 1964; son, Freddy Cocek Jr., in 2002; and sisters, Hattie Piehl, Mamie Urbanovsky and Rudie Grimm. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Tynes and husband, Dalton, of Waco; son, Anthony Cocek and wife, Bobbie, of Canyon Lake, Texas; daughter-in-law, Nettie Cocek, of Bishop; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfred Nemecek and wife, Virginia, of Austin, and Joseph (Pete) Nemecek, of Corpus Christi; and several nieces and nephews.
