Thanks to contributor #48796369. Vincent Suchanek, 94, of Ord died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home in Ord. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He was cremated. Burial will be in the Ravenna Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Suchanek was born Aug. 18, 1906, in Farwell to Bohumel and Frantiska (Kratochvil) Suchanek. He was raised on farms around Ashton and Boelus. He attended Catholic school until his mother passed away and the children stayed home to help with the family farm. He married Ruth Gwendolyn Maple in October 14, 1926 in Omaha. The couple spent their first 15 years of marriage in Rockville. In 1939, they moved to Ord, and later to St. Paul. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years and also farmed during that time. The couple moved to Southern California and worked with their son Ray and daughter Vidella in renovating historical houses. They received a commendation from San Dimas, Calif. and the San Dimas Historical Society for their contribution of building up rather than tearing down structures. In 1980, the couple returned to Ord, and she died in April of 1985. The couple had Saturday night dances where he would play the accordion and mouth harp and she would play the piano. He also enjoyed cards and was an avid gardener. Survivors include two sons, Ray of Kingman, Ariz., and Lonnie of San Dimas, Calif.; three daughters, Arvilla Gaines of San Jose, Calif., Vidella "Dolly" Rogers of Ord and Marlene Welden of Bend, Ore.; special friend and loving companion Bernice Turek of Ord; five brothers, Emil of Eugene, Ore., Bob of Springfield, Ore., Leonard of Falls Church, Va., Larry of Redding, Calif., and George of Bonaire, Ga.; three sisters, Helen of Milwaukee, Wis., Mildred Zimmerman of Omaha and Kathleen of Oak Creek, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary, Rosie Rasmussen, Ann and Dorothy; and nine brothers, Leo, Al, Charlie, Bob, Ed, Mike, Tony and two infant brothers.
