Bio

Emil Suchanek 1926 - 2014 Emil Bob Suchanek of Eugene, OR passed away on August 26, 2014 at the age of 88. He was born August 13, 1926 in Ashton, Nebraska to Anna Sajanek and Bohumel Suchanek. After graduating high school, Emil joined the United States Navy, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific region during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He married his first wife, Viola June Larsen, on June 6, 1945 in Grand Island, NE. They moved with their three children to Springfield, OR in 1953. Emil worked in the forest product industry for the Weyerhaeuser Company of Springfield, OR for 33 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree; Elks; VFW; American Legion; and a lifetime member of Oregon Moose Association where he held all of the offices. He was also a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Creswell, OR and St. Peter Catholic Church in Eugene, OR. Emil was loving, generous, smart, and always a gentleman. He loved to travel and had visited places all over the world such as Switzerland, China and Australia. He enjoyed playing card games with friends and family, and testing his luck at Casinos! More than anything, he delighted in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Preceded in death by his first wife, Viola June, in 2007, after 62 years of marriage, he is survived by his second wife, Gladys May, his three sons, Gerry (Julie) of Iowa City, Iowa, Jimmie (Eileen) of Sandy, OR and David of Springfield, OR, his 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by four of his 9 siblings and 9 half-siblings, Helen Bobb of Menomonee Falls, WI, Leonard of Fall Church, VA, Kathleen Bagin of Brookfield, WI, and Mildred Zimbelman of Omaha, NE. Also surviving are his three step-children, Deanne Perez-Granados (Rafael) of Santa Cruz, CA, Rocco (Connie) Perez of Olympia, WA, and Michael Perez of Springfield, OR, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
