Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent April 1988 Anthony G. "Tony" Suchanek, 57, of ..., died Tuesday, April 26, after a heart attack. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery... Mr. Suchanek was born June 7, 1930, at Ashton, the son of Robert and Anna Sjanek Suchanek. He grew up and received his education in Ashton, St. Libory and Loup City. In 1946 he entered the U.S. Navy, serving as a fireman at sea in the Pacific until his discharge in 1949. He married Shirley Tang on Nov. 6, 1950, at St. Libory. They moved to Grand Island where he was a salesman for Farmland Industries for 23 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement he worked part-time for Wheeler's and Pump & Pantry. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish, the Platt-Duetsche Society, the V.F.W. and the Eagles Aerie No. 378, all of Grand Island. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry J. of Chapman and Michael A. of Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Sandra) Brown of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; six brothers, Larry of Redding, Calif., Emil and Robert, both of Eugene, Ore., Mike of Baton Rouge, La., Leonard of Washington, D.C., and George of Omaha; and three sisters, Helen Bobb of Milwaukee, Wis., Kathleen Bagin of Oak Creek, Wis., and Mildred Zimbleman of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John, and two sisters, Ann and Dorothy.
