From "The Grand Island Independent", Grand Island, Nebraska dated Friday, January 29, 1954, Page 7: Mrs. Wabel Dies; Rites On Monday Mrs. Amanda Wabel, 75, wife of George W. Wabel, died Thursday evening in a local hospital. Mrs. Wabel has been in ill health for the last two years. Her home was at 1122 North Oak. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in Trinity Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Justad, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 7 to 9 o'clock Sunday evening at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Wabel was born near Hampton March 19, 1878, to Mr. and Mrs. Levi Snyder. She received her schooling and grew to womanhood in the community of her birth. She and George W Wabel were married on Feb. 3, 1897 at Hastings. They lived for a time on a farm near Giltner. Later, they moved to Cairo, where Mr. Wabel began the operation of Wabel's Market. He operated the business until February 1953, when he sold the store. Mrs. Wabel was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Her only social affiliation was with the Women's Benefit Association. She and Mr. Wabel had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last Feb. 3. Mrs. Wabel is survived by her husband; two sons, Floyd and Raymond Wabel, both of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Lyman Ooley, Pocatello, Idaho, Miss Pearl Wabel, Grand Island and Mrs. Fred Kraning, Lincoln; one sister, Mrs. John Wabel, San Leandro, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Leonard Wabel; her parents; five brothers, Thomas, Levi, Jake, Sam and Dan Snyder; and five sisters, Margaret Karl, Mary Snyder, Jane Barnett, Emma ___ler, and Catherine Steckel.
