Bio

Charles Henry Burns, the fourth of seven sons born to Peter Simon Burns and Mary Elizabeth Croft. He was married to Minnie Mae George on November 8, 1891, in Healdton, Oklahoma in what was then Indian Territory. They had six sons and three daughters, he youngest baby, a son named Ermal Earl, died in infancy. The other children were: Sam, 1893; John, 1895: Beeler, 1897; Mary, 1898; Leonard, 1900, Clifford "Red", 1902; Mabel, 1905; and Callie, 1907. Minnie Mae Burns died of TB in 1911 and was buried in Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Oklahoma. The family continued to live on their home place near Marlow until 1920. In 1920, Charles Henry Burns first came to Roger Mills County, with his two daughters, Mabel and Callie. They settled on a farm on the northwest of Cheyenne and over a period of the next two years, his five sons also moved to Roger Mills County and settled here. Charles H. remained in the Reydon and Cheyenne area, farming and raising turkeys most of the remainder of his life until his death on August 18, 1937.
