Margaret C. Mauer, 85, Topeka, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. Mrs. Mauer was born April 5, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of John and Margaret Jacobs Hafner. She was an avid gardener. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mrs. Mauer married Peter C. Mauer on Jan. 18, 1944, in Topeka. He died March 9, 1994. Survivors include three sons, Charles W., Robert G. and James M. Mauer, all of Topeka; three daughters, Mary Ann Minihan, Patricia Huey and Karen M. Harman, all of Topeka; a brother, Raymond Hafner, Topeka; a sister, Helen Dechand, Topeka; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Mauer will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Association or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home.
