In Memoriam JIM MATHEWS August 10, 1919 ~ April 16, 1997 MATHEWS RITES SET FRIDAY Jim Mathews, 77, of Idabel, died Wednesday, April 16, at his home. He was born Aug. 20, 1919, at Redland. A mechanic, Mathews was affiliated with the Methodist church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy, and loved to fish and hunt. He and Alene Pulte were married July 30, 1938, at Marshall Hill, and had lived all of his life in the community. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Walker; a great-grandson, Mathew Turnage; two sisters, Gurthie Bates and Iris Thompson; and his parents, Rex and Nancy Mathews. Survivors include his wife, Alene Mathews of the home; three sons, Paul Mathews of White Oak, Texas, Thomas Mathews of Longview, Texas, and Rex Mathews of Idabel; six daughters, Oleta Boaldin of Duke, Melva McCutcheon of Idabel, Polly Moore of Broken Bow, Anne Smith of Scooba, Miss., Joan Ferguson of Idabel and Gena Barnette of Longview, Texas; 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; Two brothers, Jess Mathews of Winlock, Wash., and Sam Mathews of Idabel; 10 sisters, Floy Parker, Jewel Richardson and Maudie Dollarhide, all of Idabel, Ester White of Fort Towson, Bessadine Potts of Haworth, Jaudean Rhoden of Longview, Texas, Jane Breen of Aptos, Calif., Marthel Smith of Valencia, Calif., Lois Hutchison of Broken Bow and Pauline Bonner of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Redland Cemetery in the Redland community with Victor Balagbagan officiating. McCurtain Daily Gazette Thursday, April 17, 1997
