Bio

OAKRIDGE - The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Oakridge for George Daniel Pokorny of Oakridge. He died June 23 of age-related causes at age 91. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Oakridge Chapel of the Woods Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Waverly, Neb., to Anton and Antonia Divis Pokorny. He married Olga Palanuk on Feb. 3, 1940, in Eugene. She died in May 1979. Pokorny worked as a tallyman for Edward Hines Lumber Co. in Westfir. Survivors include two daughters, Joan of Mount Angel and Rachel McKay of Pleasanton, Calif.; four sons, Francis and Louis, both of Oakridge, Daniel of Clackamas and William of Magnolia, Ark.; three brothers, William of Bryant, Iowa, Andrew of Harlan, Iowa, and Edward of Falls City, Neb.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Remembrances to Queen of Angels Monastery, in care of Joan Pokorny, 840 S. Main St., Mount Angel, OR 97362.
