Placidia Charlotte "Pete" Buechler Stoltz passed away in Livingston, Mont., on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. Pete was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Linton, N.D., to Mary Vetsch and Ludwig Buechler. In the late 1930s, the family moved to a farm outside Hardin. Pete's earliest memories included working in the beet fields with her family. After attending Girls State, she graduated from Hardin High School in 1951. She was employed by the Hardin Herald and was active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she met J. Everett Stoltz. They were married on May 8, 1954. During the next decade, Everett's employment with Safeway Groceries provided the family the opportunity to live in several Montana communities, including Billings, Hardin and Livingston. Following Everett's retirement from Safeway, the couple owned and operated Wilderness Outfitters Sporting Goods Store in Livingston, which they closed in 1997. During their 58-year marriage, Pete maintained a household known for its hospitality and large amounts of food. Pete was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by Everett; her daughter Zoe Ann Stoltz of Helena; James R. Stoltz of Billings; and William R. Stoltz of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of formal remembrances, please think of Pete the next time you are standing under a starry Montana sky. The family will hold a celebration of life later, when the roses are in bloom. The family thanks Hospice and the wonderful people of Livingston for their support and lov
