Ulysses Dispatch (Ulysses, Nebr.), May 3, 1928, p. 1, col. 5 THE OBITUARY OF MRS. MARY PURTEK Mrs. Mary Purtek, wife of Joseph Purtek living two and one half miles south-west of Ulysses died early on Wednesday morning April 25, at the age of 34 years, 4 months and one day. Deceased leaves her husband and two daughters Mildred, aged five and Agnes six years also a baby boy twelve days old. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Vrbka of near Surprise, four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Divis, Mrs. Antonnette Toman, Rose and Josephine Vrbka, four brothers, Ed, Frank, John and Joseph Vrbka along with many other relatives. A baby daughter preceded her to the other world. Mrs. Purtek was born in Saunders County, Nebraska. She was married to Joseph Purtek eight years ago and enjoyed the esteem and respect of a wide circle of friends who unite in tendering condolence to the bereaved loved ones in their affliction. Deceased was the possessor of a sweet and winning personality and to know her was to love her. Her last illness was brief not exceeding one-half hour in duration, the cause being an attack of heart trouble which resulted fatally. Again we are reminded that - "'Tis but a step between me and death." Her funeral services were held at the St. Mary's church in Ulysses, on Friday morning, April 27, and were conducted by Rev. Father Loughran her pastor who celebrated a Requiem High mass for the repose of her soul. The seating capacity of the church was taxed and the floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery near town when the beautiful book of her life was closed. "Eternal Rest, grant unto her O Lord, and may Light Perpetual shine upon her." - E. B. L.
