Son of Frank and Antonia (Male) Vrbka. Born in Stritez according to his marriage record. Married Mary Krenk on September 6, 1892 at Abie, Nebr. by Rev. Father Joseph Koutnik. Surprise, June 1 - Funeral services for Edward Vrbka, who died at his home near Surprise on May 25, were conducted by Rev. Loughran at St. Mary's Catholic church, Ulysses, at a Requiem High Mass, on Wednesday morning, May 27, at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Father Horacek gave the sermon in the Bohemian language. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery at Ulysses. Born in Trebic, Moravia, November 11, 1866, Mr. Vrbka came to American with his parents at the age of seven years. He lived at Fremont for a short time, then in Saunders county, near Plasi, and 13 years ago moved to near Surprise. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Krenk, of Abie. Ten children were born to them, eight are living. They are Ed and Frank of Gresham, John and Joe and Mrs. Agnes Divis of Staplehurst, Mrs. Antonette Toman of Garrison, Rose and Josephine at home. Caroline and Mrs. Mary Purtek preceded their father in death. Mrs. Purtek died three years ago, leaving three children, the youngest of whom staying in the Vrbka home since nine days old. Besides the eight children, Mr. Vrbka is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Bert Pinney, living in Idaho, and Mrs. John Vavra of Bee, and one brother, Joe Vrbka, of Surprise. Mr. Vrbka was a member of the Catholic Workmen. For two years Mr. Vrbka had been in failing health. His death was from sarcoma of the lower limb.
