Born in Vrbice, Habry County, Bohemia according to her marriage record. Married Edward Vrbka on September 6, 1892 at Abie, Nebr. by Rev. Father Joseph Koutnik. MARIE VRBKA Mrs. Marie Vrbka of Gresham passed away at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Lincoln on October 11, 1946, at 10 a.m., aged 75 years, following a short illness. Marie Krenk was born in Caslav, Czechoslovakia, May 1, 1871. When two years of age she came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krenk, and they settled in Omaha where she attended school. Later they purchased a farm near Linwood, where she grew up to young womanhood. When seventeen years of age, her mother died, leaving eight children, the youngest being nine days old, whom she had to raise. Four year later, she was united in marriage to Edward Vrbka of Plasi, where they lived on a farm for several years. Ten children blessed their home. Later they moved to a farm near Rising City, where her husband died fifteen years ago, leaving her on the farm with her youngest son for eight years. Then she moved to Gresham to live with her oldest son, Ed. Mrs. Vrbka was a devoted Catholic. She was a kind, loving mother, beside raising her own children, she also raised a grandchild, the mother dying when the child was nine days old. She leaves to mourn her loss, her eight children, Ed of Gresham, Frank of Wahoo, John of Rising City, Joe of Bruno, Mrs. Antonette Toman of Topeka, Kans., Mrs. Agnes Divis, Staplehurst, Rose Vrbka, Wahoo and Mrs. Josephine Hladky of Utica. Two daughters preceded her in death. Also two brothers, Ed of Linwood and Joe of Lincoln, two sisters, Josephine Meduna of Touhy and Sophie Barcal of Linwood. There are 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Father Downey at the Ulysses Catholic Church on Monday morning, October 14 and the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband. Pallbearers were Ed Hruska, Joe Lavicky, Alois Polak, Cyril Urbanek, Anton Vavra and John Vavra. __ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the many kind deeds extended to us during the illness and death of our dear mother and grandmother.
