JAMES HARDY (JIM) PLATT JR. Mr. James Hardy (Jim) Platt, Jr., age 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at his home in Crockett. He was surrounded by family. Mr. Platt was born January 30, 1928 in Lovelady, Texas and attended school there where he was an All-State basketball player. He is predeceased by his parents Minnie Ola and James Hardy Platt, Sr. and eleven brothers and sisters. He married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Driskell, nearly 67 years ago. They moved to the Texas City, La Marque area in 1946 where He was employed by American Oil Company for 41 years. Due to his dedication to Amoco and the abundant respect by his fellow workers, He was elected to the Amoco Credit Union Board of Directors where he served for 18 years in various positions including multiple appointments as Chairman of the Board. He was also actively involved in the La- Marque Church of Christ where he was a Deacon for numerous years. Jim and Hazel moved to Crockett in 1993 to enjoy their retirement. He was a faithful member of the Grace Street Church of Christ. Traveling to different countries and 49 states kept Jim and Hazel busy. They made memories in Europe, Asia, Greece, Australia, New Zealand and other ports of call. Their six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also kept them busy and happy. Survivors include his wife Hazel; three girls and their spouses Patricia and Kirby Fortenberry, of Richmond, Linda and Frank Marsters, of Missouri City, Marsha and Charles Montes, of Nacogdoches; sister Beth Tunstall Sherman, of Crockett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jim's grandchildren and greatgrandchildren Amy, Spencer, Cade and Brinley Lippincott, Kevin and Megan Fortenberry, Lindsay, Cori and Ty Cantu, Sarah, Brad and Macy McFaddin, Frank, Vanessa and McKenna Marsters and James, April, Jace and Aubrey Marsters. Honorary Pallbearers were Oscar Allen, Roy Lucas, John Kenneth Hinson, Morris Kirk and Wayne Thompson. Funeral Services for Mr. James H. (Jim) Platt, Jr. were held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Callaway- Allee Memorial Chapel with Mr. Frank Minton officiating. Interment followed in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery.
