Mr. James "Hardy" Platt Sr. 86, of Lovelady died in a Houston hospital on July 24, 1965. Mr. Platt, a lifelong resident of Houston County, was a member of the Christian Church and of the Lovelady Lodge No. 539, AF & AM. James "Hardy" Platt was a farmer in Lovelady, TX. He and his wife Minnie Ola Barnes had thirteen children. Each summer he would farm in "the country" near Center Hill Cemetery. He had a farm with 164 acres where they grew peanuts. In the winter, the family moved to Lovelady where the kids would be closer to the schools and they would walk to school each day. Later in his life he became the Judge in Lovelady and he dealt with misdemeanor offenses. He loved his swing on his front porch and everyone knew when he came to the porch it was time to grab a chair and get out of his swing. He loved his family and he and his wife raised children who became very successful in life. One of his son's, Joe Bell Platt along with his wife, Vida Lee, took care of them as he aged and was no longer farming. His children all contributed to their parents well-being up until the day they departed this earth. Funeral services were held from the Waller Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dalton Graves officiating, assisted by Mr. Don Crafton. Burial was in the Center Hill Cemetery, under the auspices of Lovelady Lodge No. 539.
