The Catholic Voice - Friday July 11, 1986 SISTER KARNIK, 89, IS DEAD IN OMAHA Sister Emanuela Karnik, ND, died late last week at NotreDame Convent where she had retired in 1968. Born in 1897 in Dodge Neb, she attended Boyles Business College in Omaha. In 1920 she made her profession of religous vows and began teaching at Father Flanagan's Home in Omaha. In 1936 she was a U.S. province delegate at the N.D. General Chapter in Czechoslovakia. She remained there for some time teaching English and business subjects, also studying art and music. She returned to the U.S. in 1938. Among her many teaching assignments were Assumption and St. Therese Schools in Omaha; teacher and principal at Notre Dame Academy in Omaha and St. Wenceslaus School in Dodge. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Healey, CA, nieces and nephews. On September 12, 1917 she became an aspirant for the Notre Dame Sisterhood. From 1917-1918 she taught third and fourth grade at Holy Trinity School in Brainard, Nebraska. On August 13, 1918 she received the religious habit and given the name Sister Mary Emmanuela. Her first profession was August 23, 1920; her final profession was August 20, 1923. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee of vows on August 13, 1970, and her Diamond Jubilee in 1980.
