The Schuyler Sun, Thur July 1, 1948 The bells of St. Mary's Nep church toiled Wednesday morning for the passing of Joesph J. Karnik who during the early years of his life worshipped with in it's holy precincts. He was born Fed 13, 1885, on a farm in Cuming County, a son of the late Charles and Mary Karnik. On Jan 24, 1911 he was married to Miss Lucy Molacek at St John's Nep church by the late Rev. C. L. Zak. They made their home in Dodge for six years. later they resided on a farm for two years and then came to Howells and they resided here four years. From here they went to Clarkson and lived there twenty-four years. He was in the employ of the Joyce Lumber Company and he also served as precinct assessor of Adams Precinct for many years. Mr. Karnik served as scorekeeper for practically all the games in which Clarkson participated. Three years ago the family moved to Omaha and Mr karnik entered the employ of the Chicago Lumber Company. However he had been gradually failing in health and the past year he had spent much time at St Joseph's Hospital. When he fell asleep on Tuesday morning, June 22. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter. Mrs George Wragge of Lincoln, and two sons Joseph of Schuyler and Lambert of Omaha, Three grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs Joseph Beran and Mrs Rose Loukota, Mrs Millie Higgins of Concord Calif., Mrs Walter Arnold of Denver Colo, and sister Emannela of Notre Dame Academy in Omaha. One brother Emil preceded him in death about 6 years ago. The remains were brought to Howells on Wednesday afternoon to the Prucha Funeral Home where that same evening rosary was recited. Final rites were held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the funeral home.
