Joseph "Joe" Grmela, 68, of West, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, in West. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will be follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Joe was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late Rose Marie (Macha) Grmela and Rudolph Grmela. He attended St. Mary's School, graduated from West High School in 1962, and also from 4C Business College in Waco. He was a certified public accountant, working for Commercial Associates in Waco for over 30 years before retiring in 2007. He also worked for Central Motors and was the owner of Obchod, where he sold cookbooks. Joe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where he served as a former president of the Finance Committee and Catholic Youth Organization. He was a member of K.J.T. Society No. 31 and a Board Member of the West Independent School District. He enjoyed writing poetry, traveling, and attending area picnics. He especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Grmela; sisters, Helen Girard and Lois McMillan; nieces, Bridget Sinkule and Carolyn Girard Jones; and a nephew, Robert Sinkule. Survivors include his brother, Rudy Grmela and wife, Dorothy, of Elm Mott; sisters, Margaret Sinkule and Sue Grmela, both of West; niece, Joni Pilgrim and husband, Larry; nephews, Jerry Girard and wife, Sarah, David Girard and wife, Diane, Lawrence Girard and wife, Louise, Jerry Sinkule Jr., Tim Sinkule and wife, Tammy, Mark Sinkule and wife, Jackie, and Edward Grmela and wife, Lisa; a special friend, Connie Scott; and many other relatives and friends.
