Lois Rose Grmela McMillan, 73, of Elm Mott, formerly of West and McGregor, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 4 p.m. with visitation to follow until 6 p.m. Sunday, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lois was born in West, Texas, to the late Rudolph and Rose Macha Grmela. She attended schools in Tokio, Abbott, and West, including St. Mary's School. On Nov. 24, 1977, she was united in marriage to Ed McMillan in Hubbard. Lois worked for the Fickle Delicatessen, the Custard King in West, Marathon Battery in Waco, and Speegleville School Cafeteria. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in Waco, and a former member of St. Eugene's Catholic Church where she was very active in many of the church activities and festivals. Lois was also a member of the American Legion #273, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, McGregor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2148 Auxiliary, and the Elm Mott Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, playing slot machines, attending garage sales, and playing bingo. Lois was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a brother, Henry Grmela; and a sister, Helen Girard. Survivors include brothers, Rudy Grmela and wife, Dorothy, of Elm Mott, and Joe Grmela, of West; sisters, Margaret Sinkule and Sue Grmela, both of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
