Bio

Rudy Grmela, age 83, of Elm Mott, passed away early Thursday afternoon, July 1, 2021 at Homestead Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Rudy was born April 24, 1938 in West, the son of Rudolph and Rose (Macha) Grmela. He attended school in Abbott. On September 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Tobola in Penelope. Dorothy preceded him in death on May 2, 2020. Rudy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He worked for Binswanger Glass Company for 43 years until his retirement. Rudy enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and was a great handyman. He raised sheep, ducks, geese, quail, chickens, and birds. Rudy was a very caring person and helped out all of his neighbors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rudy is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Grmela and Joseph "Joe" Grmela; and sisters, Margaret Sinkule, Susan Lucy Grmela, Helen Girard, and Lois McMillan. Survivors include his son, Edward Grmela and wife Lisa of Waco; three grandchildren, Eddie Grmela Jr. and wife Haley, Alisha Grmela and fiance Ricky Johnson, and Emily Rawls and husband Garett; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Tanner, Madison, and Beckett; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
