Erma Juliette Nelson passed away quietly on December 23, 2006 at her daughters home in Highland, Utah. She was born in Mapleton, Utah on January 2nd, 1918, the fourth of 15 children born to Ralph and Emma Fullmer. She grew up in the Springville Mapleton area and married Emil Lemond Mecham in June of 1935. Together they had two daughters and one son. Emil died in January of 1949 and she later married William (Bill) Nelson. Together they had three daughters. Bill died in February of 2003. Erma was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She loved her family and her extended family very much, and making holidays and family get-togethers wonderful, was her specialty. She loved beautiful flowers and was an avid gardener. She also loved to quilt and do hand work and over the years made many treasured heirlooms for her children and grandchildren. She was a determined person with a work ethic to match. She worked as a crane operator at Geneva Steel during World War II and later worked at First Security Bank until her retirement. Most of all she loved her Savior and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and worked faithfully in many church callings throughout her life. She and her husband Bill served a mission in the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia mission which was one of the highlights of her life. She took up the sport of archery later in life and with her determination, twice won the title of National Champion of the Field Archery Associations, Senior Womens Division. For the past three years Erma made her home at the Seville Assisted Living Center in Orem, Utah, where she had many wonderful friends. Her family would like to thank the staff and the residents of the Seville for the love and kindness shown to their mother. Erma is survived by her daughters Gwen (Jim) Carroll, Highland, UT; Shirlene (Ronald) Day, Bountiful, UT; Karen, (Rod) Marshall, Denver, CO; Kay (Jim) Graff, Alpine, UT; and Elaine Butler, Pleasant Grove, UT. She was preceded in death by her son, Bernell Mecham. She is also survived by 19 of her 20 grandchildren, 21 of her 22 great, grandchildren (with two on the way) and four great, great, grandchildren, (with one on the way). Viewings will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27th at the Berg Mortuary 185 East Center Street in Provo, UT and one hour prior to the funeral services which will be at held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28th in the Edgemont 7th ward chapel, 555 East 3230 North, in Provo. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
