Monta Fern Fullmer Reid, age 95, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Lakeview Elderly Care Center in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was born Tuesday, January 25, 1916 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Ralph and Emma Katrina Nelson Fullmer. She was the third oldest in a family of fifteen children which included ten girls and five boys. She lived most of her life in Springville and at a very early age she learned the value of hard work. She worked in the garden, tended her younger siblings, and picked fruit. She was especially proud of how many pounds of cherries she could pick. She later worked at the local cannery, for the school lunch and at the Barbizon sewing plant. Monta was a vivacious, energetic mother and grandmother. Her home and family were the most important things to her and the greatest joy in her life. She loved working in her beautiful yard and won several Yard of the Month awards. She was a meticulous housekeeper and enjoyed cooking delicious meals and treats for anyone who came for a visit. She loved sports and loved supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years. She was the first to give compassionate service to anyone in need. Monta married Charles L. Reid on November 26, 1931. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were parents to six children; two daughters and four sons: Patricia (who died in infancy), Marvin (Mary Ellen) Reid, Ila (Russ) Gruver, Donald Duke (Joan) Reid, Fred (Linda) Reid, and Roger (Diane) Reid. Monta and Charlie were married over sixty-one years. They enjoyed many happy times camping, fishing at Strawberry, and later spending winters in Arizona. They resided at 550 East 1000 South in Springville. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Patricia, son Duke, son-in-law Con L. Taylor, grandson David Charles Reid, brothers: Clay Fullmer, Virl Fullmer and Laurence Fullmer; and sisters: Maxine Shepherd, Fay (Curt) Chipman, Erma (Bill) Nelson, Shirley Lehr, Donna (Buss) Hammette, Connie (Merton) Harward, and Jeanine Leftwich. She is survived by her children and their spouses, twenty grandchildren, sixty-three great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, sisters: Lena (Joe) Peterson, Lorraine (Reed) Orton, and brothers: Ralph Junior (Dee) and Mark Fullmer. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Kolob Stake Center, 1230 South 500 East, Springville. A viewing will precede the services from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Published in the Deseret News on March 27, 2011.
