Edward A. Pavlicek, Sr., retired USAF, went home to the Lord on May 18, 2010, after a lengthy illness at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital's Extended Care Therapy Center. He was 80 years old. Edward was born on a farm in Tours,Texas, to Joseph and Annie Marek Pavlicek. He joined the USAF in 1948. On June 10,1951, he married his childhood sweetheart, Tarcisia Berger, at St. Martin's church, in Tours. During his military service, Edward was devoted to and excelled in the field of jet engine mechanics and served as an instructor of engine maintenance. His last overseas tour was in Vietnam,where he maintained the "Jolly Green Giant " helicopters. He retired from the Air Force in 1968. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing golf, preparing BBQ and cooking and baking for his family and friends. His specialty was homemade jelly and rolls. Edward was a lifetime member of DAV 114, American Legion Post 579,VFW Post 9174 and SPJST Lodge 66. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, including Frank ,Albin, James, Joe and Leo, who was a casualty of the Korean War; and three sisters, Bessie Pustejovsky, Vlasta Svoboda and Adella Thun. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Tarcisia,and three children: Fr. Ed Pavlicek, Jr., Pastor , St. Mary's Church , Somerset; Dennis Frank Pavlicek, of San Antonio; Dianne Jacinta Pavlicek, of San Antonio. Survivors also include one sister, Frances Enders, and many loving nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews, and friends. The family is extremely grateful for the friendship, tender care and compassion of the dedicated staff of care-providers of the ECTC at Audie Murphy. Visitation will begin on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at 5 pm at Castle Ridge Mortuary, 8008 W. Military Dr., San Antonio. A Vigil service with Rosary will then be celebrated that evening at 7pm. A graveside service with military honors will follow on Monday, May 24, at 10am, at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, in Castroville. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Church ( San Antonio) Building Fund, or the SPJST Lodge 66 Scholarship Fund. Published in Express-News on May 23, 2010
